Salou demands greater police presence in high season

Salou, the main tourist municipality of the Costa Daurada, has received one and a half million visitors during the high season of 2022, what represents 44% of the total number of tourists who visited the Tarragona coast.

However, the preparations for the Easter and summer season of 2023 have led the mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, to ask the Generalitat of Catalonia for a reinforcement in the presence of police officers in the locality.

Granados has stated that Salou City Council has again insisted to the Government on the need to have enough Mossos troops, taking into account the large volume of people residing in the town and the large number of visitors who visit it during the summer months.

In a meeting of the Local Security Board together with the representation of the Civil Guard, the Mossos d'Esquadra, the Local Police and the National Police, Granados has asked the Catalan leaders to objectively assess the data, without taking into account the criminal acts, since Salou is the town that receives the largest number of people in the entire province of Tarragona during the summer.

The head of the Salou Vila-seca District Police Station of Mossos d'Esquadra, Enric Carrasco, explained that police reinforcement will be carried out for Easter and summer, both at the police station and in the Regional Area of Operational Resources, similar to other years. For Easter, the reinforcement will be done with its own resources and will imply having 6 or 7 service crews in the morning, afternoon and night. While facing the summer, there will be thirty endowments.

Salou, capital and tourist reference of the Costa Dorada

Salou is the tourist epicenter of the Costa Daurada, which covers an area of 3,000 square kilometers, and has important cities such as Tarragona, Reus, El Vendrell or Valls, and other tourist centers such as La Pineda, Torredembarra, Altafulla, Cambrils, L' Hospitalet de l'Infant, Mont-roig del Camp, Cunit or Calafell.

According to Eurecat data, Salou received the highest number of visitors between June and October 2022. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure security in the area to maintain its tourist and economic attractiveness.
