Best things to see in Cambrils
Cambrils is a traditional coastal city that retains much of the charm of its past.. One of the best historical sights is next to the marina. Today it is full of luxurious yachts, but in the 18th century it was pirates who tried to land here on a regular basis.
That is why it was built port tower (below), to protect the fishermen who used the coast. At one time there was a large canyon on top, which is now in the local museum. The tower is usually open for free.
In this Torre del Puerto area is the nerve center of the municipality, restaurants, shops and a beautiful promenade to walk in the moonlight. The site really is postcard.
There is also modernity to enjoy in Cambrils. The pretty Parque del Pescador has facilities for children, water fountains and pleasant walks.
Also there are many good restaurants in this area, all types. Cambrils is famous for the quality of its food and its seafood. In addition, in the center of the new city is the art deco church of Sant Pere de Cambrils. As for "modern" churches, this one is especially striking.
Cambrils old town is a short walk down the hill. Here you will find winding narrow streets with attractive houses on either side. Take in the remains of the old city wall and the street lined with huge potted plants. In the heart of the old town is the church of Santa María de Cambrils.
There are several information boards with information about the history of the area that are worth reading. The old town square, with its historic water fountain (photo below), is a lovely place to stop for a bite to eat or a drink.
Another Cambrils highlight not to be missed is a short bus ride out of town. Here you will find the Sama Park (photo below), which contains some of Antoni Gaudí's early influences. The park surrounds a mansion that was the summer home of Salvador Sama and is full of Cuban influences.
The beautiful landscaping was done in the late 19th century and is a joy to experience. Adult admission to Parc Sama costs 8 euros (2022 prices).
